PBA Sets up College Fund for Local Officer's Children

The Policeman's Benevolent Association Local 352 has started a college fund for the two young children of Officer Jason C. Marles, who was killed early Thursday morning by a drunk driver.

Marles, a graduate of Central Regional High School in Berkeley, is survived by his 5-year-old daughter, Taryn, and a 4-year-old son, Landon.

Marles was heading home on the Garden State Parkway after an extended shift that included a drunken-driving patrol. According to State Police, shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday, the 1995 Jeep Cherokee he was driving was slammed in the rear by a Manchester driver who later was charged with vehicular homicide and drunken-driving.   Marles was killed as a result of the crash.

A funeral service for Marles will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Carmona-Bolen Home for Funerals in Toms River, the Marles family announced. After the service, Marles will be interred at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Toms River.

Donations to Marles' children's college fund can be made to PBA Local No. 352, P.O. Box 562, Island Heights, NJ 08732.
